NENUPHORS
This new work is a continuation of my exploration of a more painterly effect in my glassmaking. Still with a primary focus on the aspect of looking through the piece to see interactions of the pattern, color and texture. Pieces titled after flowers in French drew inspiration from impressionist paintings but the patterns depicted in abstract shift, move and The elements of the patterns are geometric and grid-like when I begin the process, but the result is anything but. The patterning is fashioned from mosaic elements laid out to accentuate the interaction of colors as you look into and through. The glass bands and stripes in differing widths and colors are drawn into long pieces then cut and used to build the mosaic. The mosaic itself is then fused in the heat of the glassblowing furnace, sculpted and blown into shape. During this process the patterning is interpreted and shaped along with the form of the piece.
