This Vase is very striking in its complexity. The swooping white lattice stripes and looping bands of color are so beautiful. This would make the perfect addition to any art glass collection.
“Sykli” is the Finnish word for ‘cycle’, referencing the cycle of the sun around the earth. This patterning is made with a mosaic of multi colored strips of glass that are fused and attached to the blowpipe from above. The bands of colored glass are then allowed to drip down creating the loop pattern. The pattern is further interpreted during the glassblowing process to create gradients of color that intensify when they interact with the colors on the opposing side of the piece. This abstracted sunset over the water color pattern captures the blue ocean with pinks and gold overhead.
